February Tea Report: 2023 China Exports & US Imports

Data from the China Tea Marketing Association and the US Census Bureau (GATS) was recently published regarding China exports and US imports of tea for Jan-Feb 2023.

CHINA EXPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Jan-Feb total export volume DECREASED 19.4% year on year
• GREEN tea accounted for 83.8% of total export volume
• Average prices DECREASED 11.2% over the previous Jan-Feb to $4.92/kg
• Exports of GREEN tea volume DECREASED 20.6% over Jan-Feb 2022
• Exports of BLACK tea volume DECREASED 13.4% over the same time last year

US IMPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Average price for GLOBAL imports was $4.19/kg, DOWN 16.1% over the previous February
• Average price for CHINA imports was $4.53/kg, UP 8.4% over Feb 2022
• 32.1% of all GREEN tea import (volume) was from China, but only 10.6% of VALUE
• 36.7% of the month’s US ORGANIC tea import volume was from China
